Celebrate Arbor Day by planting a palm and germinating some palm seeds!
HIPS will be giving away young palms and palm seeds to all who show up at the main pavilion at the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens. Demonstrations on germinating seeds and caring for palms in your nursery will help you grow what you bring home.
Mike McDonald, manager of Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve and Gardens (HTBG) will talk about the HTBG's new Living Seed Bank Program. Pick up a $5 coupon towards a yearly membership at HTBG valid through the month of November. With a Hawaiian Driver's License and the coupon, the membership for an individual would cost $35 for the year.
After the talks, Tim Brian will lead a tour of the mature palm plantings around the zoo so you might see what your young palms might look like one day.
So tell your friends and neighbors to join you in celebrating Arbor Day in Hawaii.
